STANDARD IN THE SPOTLIGHT – Electromagnetic fields in the human environment
This European standard provides methods for assessing compliance with the requirements of the Directive 2013/35/EU (Electromagnetic Field (EMF) exposure of workers) at a site operating one or more broadcast transmitters.
It describes how to meet the minimum health and safety requirements regarding the exposure of workers to the risks arising from physical agents (electromagnetic fields). The standard is of importance for workers in television- and radio
broadcasting
sites in the sense that it deals with potential health issues.
EN 50496:2018 – Determination of workers' exposure to electromagnetic fields and assessment of risk at a broadcast site was developed by Technical committee CENELEC/TC 106X – Equipment and tools for live working, whose
secretariat is held by the German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies of DIN and VDE (DKE).
